Coaching Support, Access & Pathways

More Than Coaching — True Support Systems

At the Livingstone Rhinos Rugby Club, coaches play a role that goes far beyond training sessions. Our coaches and volunteers actively support young people by creating access to opportunity, exposure, and guidance that many would otherwise never receive.

Through structured coaching and mentorship, players are given opportunities to:

  • Participate in local and regional tournaments

  • Experience organised competition in a safe environment

  • Build confidence through travel and exposure

  • Learn discipline, preparation, and responsibility

For many children, attending tournaments is their first experience of structured travel, teamwork beyond their community, and representing something bigger than themselves.

The Calf Rhino Programme (Grassroots Foundation)

Where Every Journey Begins

The Calf Rhino Programme is our dedicated grassroots development initiative designed for our youngest participants. It provides a safe, fun, and structured introduction to rugby and movement-based sport.

The programme:

  • Starts with tag rugby as the entry point

  • Focuses on fun, confidence, coordination, and teamwork

  • Introduces rugby values before rugby contact

  • Allows children to progress at their own pace

As children grow in confidence and ability, they are gradually guided toward the next phase of the game — contact rugby — when they are physically, mentally, and emotionally ready.

COMMUNITY PROTECTION INITIATIVES

Through organised outreach activities, our players take part in projects such as:

  • Litter picking, recycling and clean-up in local communities

  • Gardening and environmental care projects

  • Pollution awareness and prevention activities

  • Wildlife and conservation education eg human wildlife conflict (save the rhino, save the elephant

  • Promoting cleanliness, responsibility, and teamwork

These activities instil discipline, ownership, and environmental awareness while strengthening the connection between the club and the wider community.

SCHOOL & COMMUNITY VISITS

We actively work to build relationships within the community through:

  • School rugby introduction sessions

  • Community training days and open sessions

  • Educational talks on values, discipline, and life skills

  • Engagement with parents, teachers, and local leaders

These visits help create trust, visibility, and stronger pathways into the club.

Our Belief

Rugby is not the destination — it is the vehicle.

Through coaching, mentorship, access, and opportunity, the Livingstone Rhinos Rugby Club exists to save lives, shape futures, and open doors for young people who need it most.
